Sean Tan, MBA, Data Protection and Privacy Consultant

Sean has broad legal experience, with emphasis on technology, procurement, outsourcing and data protection.

Sean is our Singapore-based consultant focusing on clients with presence in the Asia Pacific region. He advises on how their global privacy programmes and practices can be adapted based on region-specific compliance nuances and local complexities.

Sean has worked at two global technology companies as their in-house counsel advising on legal and regulatory matters impacting the Asia Pacific business with a focus on ASEAN and India. During these stints, he acted as a local DPO advising on the collection, use and transfer of personal data in an MNC setting. His experience has led him to firmly believe that organisational sensitivity is key and as a result, he often adopts a cross-functional, multi-disciplinary approach when advocating a ‘privacy-first’ culture.

Sean began his in-house legal career at a public sector body administering the national deposit insurance scheme and conducted bank intervention and failure resolution activities. He is dual-qualified as a barrister in England & Wales and an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. He also holds an MBA and is product management-certified.
